Reaching the public

Delivering a newspaper can be a daunting task. Consider this: Each week the Torch prints around 90,000 papers which have to be delivered to homes throughout a very large area. We need a veritable army of deliverers to achieve this task and believe us when we say it can become complicated.

Each area to which we deliver (and remember, we deliver 4 different newspapers over vastly different areas) is divided into Zones. Each zone is then divided into rounds and each round is assigned to a walker. A round can vary from around 100 to several hundred houses.
Shopping centres and factories are divided into Commercial Rounds and are normally handled by bulk drops.

When you see the logistics of the delivery task it's not surprising it's managed by computers. The thing that is surprising is that with our computer system we can administer the delivery of 4 newspapers totaling close to 200,000 copies with just one person.

The system we use is based on Filemaker Pro and was developed in-house.
